Boarding a Vessel at Sea overview

The Boarding a Vessel at Sea course provides essential skills and knowledge to safely and effectively board a vessel at sea using a rope ladder.

This course is specifically designed for members of the Australasian Institute of Marine Surveyors (AIMS), including authorised officers, marine surveyors, inspectors, engineers, and seafarers working on international and Australian installations who need to board vessels at approved anchorages.

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the operations and risks associated with boarding a vessel at sea, and will be able to:

Organise Boarding Plans

Formulate a comprehensive plan for boarding the vessel, ensuring all safety protocols and operational guidelines are followed.

Execute Pre-Boarding Checks

Perform all necessary checks and preparations prior to boarding, including equipment inspections and safety briefings.

Board the Vessel using a Rope Ladder

Safely climb aboard the vessel using a rope ladder, employing proper techniques to ensure safety and efficiency.

Finalise Post-Boarding Tasks

Complete all required tasks after boarding, such as securing equipment and conducting debriefings, to ensure a successful operation.

  2. Present photo I.D. on arrival
  3. If you have any physical conditions that may affect your ability to complete a course, please visit a doctor and obtain a “Fit for Work” certificate, and send it to our bookings email.
    1. Please note, Saferight reserves the right to cancel your enrolment if this documentation is not provided and you are deemed unfit for training. Additionally, cancellation fees will apply if adequate notice is not given.
  4. Please bring a towel and appropriate swim attire for the in-water activities.
  5. Ability to read, write and understand English

If your LLN skills are assessed as needing improvement to meet the course requirements, we may recommend additional support or training to help you succeed.
