Undertake First Response to Fire Incidents overview

This Undertake First Response to Fire Incidents unit of competency covers the skills and knowledge required to undertake an appropriate first response to fire incidents in onshore and offshore situations/emergencies.

People working, operating or who regularly travel to an onshore or offshore hydrocarbon/petrochemical installation or facility or major hazard facility may require this competency.

This unit could be applied to any of the following installations or facilities:

  • factories and production plants
  • onshore/offshore rig/installation
  • island based facility
  • floating production vessel or platform
  • onshore production, processing pipeline systems and/or storage facilities
  • pipeline easements
  • maintenance bases.

Safety and Emergency Officers are critical in ensuring the safety and well-being of employees in various industries, particularly in high-risk environments such as mining, construction, and industrial facilities. These roles involve planning and implementing safety protocols, responding to emergencies, and ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Emergency Response: Respond to emergencies such as medical incidents, fires, and hazardous material spills, ensuring swift and effective management.

You will be enrolled into the following unit of competency:

  1. Must be 18 years old and above
  2. Present photo I.D. on arrival
  3. Complete a ‘Fitness to Complete Training’ form upon arrival at the training location. The student is required to declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation
  4. Bring along your own PPE: Gloves, high vis vests, you must wear enclosed shoes and remove all jewellery prior to course commencement. 
  5. Ability to read, write and understand English

Your certificate does not have an expiry date, however, industry standards recommend retraining every two years.
