Confine Small Emergencies in a Facility overview

This PUAFER008 Confine Small Emergencies in a Facility course is aimed at those who are responsible for confining small workplace emergencies such as a small fire using a fire extinguisher or chemical spill using a small spill kit.

This unit of competency involves the skills and knowledge required to confine small emergencies in a facility and it applies to occupants who are required to have first attack firefighting skills. It includes preparing for emergency situations, identifying and assessing an emergency, safely confining emergencies, using initial response equipment and reporting on the facility’s emergency response.

Students will attain the practical application and understanding to identify, assess and safely confine workplace emergency situations following emergency response procedures:

  1. Prepare for Facility Emergency: Identify potential emergency situations, gather relevant information, determine emergency actions as per the facility emergency plan
  2. Pre-Emergency Planning: Attend emergency planning meetings, conduct regular exercises, maintain and update emergency response procedure, update emergency control organization details
  3. Action During Emergency: Identify/initiate emergency signals, operate emergency stations, assess the situation, initiate action plan, control area access, give directions, monitor evacuation, communicate with emergency service
  4. Conclude Emergency: Notify when safe to return, implement re-entry process, report system reinstatement, provide debriefing information, compile reports for committee and management, file documentation

  1. Ability to read, write and understand English
  2. Present photo I.D. on arrival
  3. Complete a ‘Fitness to Complete Training’ form upon arrival at the training facility. The student is required to declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation
  4. Wear normal work clothing, enclosed footwear and remove all jewellery prior to commencement

On successful completion of this course, students will receive a:

Your certificate does not have an expiry date, however, industry standards recommend retraining every two years.

The Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be supplied and verified prior to issuance.
