Fire Team Member overview

The Fire Team Member course equips participants with the skills and knowledge to operate a breathing apparatus while managing fire control and emergency rescue in resource industry workplaces.

This course is designed for operators in the resource industry who are routinely required to collaborate with team members during fire emergencies, use emergency equipment, and conduct search and rescue operations according to established procedures.

The course covers the operation and maintenance of breathing apparatuses in irrespirable atmospheres, in line with Australian Standard AS/NZS 1715:2009. Additionally, it trains participants to function effectively as part of an emergency response team, handling fire emergencies in both onshore and offshore facilities.

Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the operations and risks associated with Fire Team Member Operations, and will be able to:

  • Conduct pre-donning checks and tests on breathing apparatus
  • Operate breathing apparatus
  • Conclude operations in accordance with procedures
  • Respond to identified fire emergencies
  • Deploy fire emergency equipment
  • Undertake search and rescue of affected areas

  1. Must be 18 years old and above
  2. Present photo I.D. on arrival
  3. Complete a ‘Fitness to Complete Training’ form upon arrival at the training facility. The student is required to declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation
  4. Be clean shaven and remove all jewellery
  5. Ability to read, write and understand English
