This RIIHAN309F – Conduct telescopic materials handler operations is for those currently working or seeking work in operational roles in the mining and construction industries and will be required to operate a telescopic materials handler in the workplace.

Students will attain the theoretical knowledge and the practical application to operate a telehandler properly and will be able to:

  1. Plan Telescopic Materials Handler Operations: Interpret documentation, clarify work requirements, assess hazards, select PPE, apply signage, choose equipment, and coordinate on-site.
  2. Operate Telescopic Materials Handler: Conduct pre-start checks, ensure control and serviceability, assess hazards, and operate the handler as per site conditions and procedures.
  3. Handle Materials: Use communication methods, assess load weight, ensure safe working load, securely shift materials, and perform post-operation inspection.
  4. Use Attachments: Select, fit, test, and use handler attachments, following workplace procedures for use and storage.
  5. Relocate Handler: Prepare and transport the handler safely between sites, adhering to safety and traffic rules.
  6. Conduct Housekeeping: Clean the work area, manage hazards, and complete necessary documentation.

  1. Face-to-face: Complete both theory and practical on site; OR
