Telescopic Materials Handler overview
This RIIHAN309F – Conduct telescopic materials handler operations is for those currently working or seeking work in operational roles in the mining and construction industries and will be required to operate a telescopic materials handler in the workplace.
Students will attain the theoretical knowledge and the practical application to operate a telehandler properly and will be able to:
- Plan Telescopic Materials Handler Operations: Interpret documentation, clarify work requirements, assess hazards, select PPE, apply signage, choose equipment, and coordinate on-site.
- Operate Telescopic Materials Handler: Conduct pre-start checks, ensure control and serviceability, assess hazards, and operate the handler as per site conditions and procedures.
- Handle Materials: Use communication methods, assess load weight, ensure safe working load, securely shift materials, and perform post-operation inspection.
- Use Attachments: Select, fit, test, and use handler attachments, following workplace procedures for use and storage.
- Relocate Handler: Prepare and transport the handler safely between sites, adhering to safety and traffic rules.
- Conduct Housekeeping: Clean the work area, manage hazards, and complete necessary documentation.
Saferight Earthmoving courses use hands-on training in real-world settings, WITHOUT the use of simulators.

Entry Requirements
- Must be 18 years old and above
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Present photo I.D. on arrival
- Complete a ‘Fitness to Complete Training’ form upon arrival at the training facility. The student is required to declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation
- Wear steel cap boots and remove all jewellery prior to commencement
- Bring along a hi-vis vest

On successful completion of this Grader Ticket course, students will receive a:
