High Risk Work Licence

A High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) is a certification required in Australia to perform specific types of work that are deemed hazardous.

These activities include operating heavy machinery, working at heights, or handling hazardous materials, among others. The licence ensures that the holder has undergone the necessary training and assessment to safely perform high-risk tasks according to Australian workplace safety standards.

A HRWL is recognised in all states and territories of Australia, enabling the holder to perform high risk work under consistent standards.

All courses under our High Risk Training and Crane Operations categories are considered as high risk.

Types of High-Risk work:

Crane, hoist, and forklift operations:

• Operating different types of cranes and hoists, such as tower cranes and mobile cranes, reach stackers, and driving forklifts.

Rigging and scaffolding:

• Setting up and dismantling scaffolds, performing rigging for lifting operations.

Working from heights:

• Operating EWP (Elevated Working Platforms).

Dogging:

• Directing the movement of loads when a crane is lifting the loads.

To obtain a high-risk work licence, an individual must:

1. Enrol in a Registered Training Organization (RTO): Complete a training course provided by an RTO for the specific high-risk work category.
2. Assessment: After training, pass an assessment conducted by an assessor who is registered with the Australian Skills and Quality Authority (ASQA) to issue these licences.
3. Application: Apply for the licence directly to WorkSafe or pay an extra fee for our admin to submit the application for you. This typically involves providing proof of identity, training completion, and the assessment results.

Saferight can assist you with your High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) applications to WorkSafe. Please follow the instructions below when enrolling through our website, based on your specific needs:

For New HRWL Applications or Transferring an Existing HRWL

• Select “High Risk Work Licence (New/Transfer)” and “Photo (6x)” during the enrolment process.
  • Important: You must select the “Photo (6x)” option when applying for a new HRWL or transferring an existing one. If you forget to select the photo option, the charge will be added manually when you attend the training.

For Adding a New Class to an Existing HRWL:

• Select “High Risk Work Licence (Adding a Class)” during the enrolment process.
• • Note: If you’re adding a class to an existing HRWL, you do not need to select the “Photo (6x)” option.

If You Want to Handle Your HRWL Applications Yourself:

• Simply proceed with your enrolment without selecting any of the HRWL options. This allows you to manage your HRWL application independently.

If your application was handled by our admin team:

You will receive a confirmation email approximately one week after completing your course. This email will confirm that your application for a High-Risk Work Licence (HRWL) has been submitted to WorkSafe.

Please note that once submitted, Saferight does not have the ability to track the status of your HRWL or influence the issuance timeline. For any updates or inquiries regarding the status of your HRWL, please directly contact WorkSafe, as they are responsible for issuing the licence.

If you applied directly to WorkSafe:

According to the WorkSafe website, it will take approximately 60 calendar days for your application to be finalised. For a more up to date information regarding processing times, please contact WorkSafe directly.

High-risk work licences typically need to be renewed every five years to ensure ongoing competency.

If you don’t apply for your High Risk Work Licence within 60 days after finishing your course, your Notice of Assessment will expire. You will then be required to go back to Saferight and book in for a re-assessment. This commences from the last day of the course, the rebooking fee for this is half of the original course fee. (For example if you completed Dogging at $1300, the re-assessment fee would be $650)

• HRWL Transfer + Photo (6x): $160 AUD

• HRWL Adding a Class: $95 AUD
