4WD + Operate a Light Vehicle overview
A. Operate and maintain a 4WD vehicle
Students will attain the practical application and understanding required to operate and maintain a 4WD vehicle on and off road and will be able to:
4WD Fundamentals & Preparation
- Identify 4WD and defensive driving-specific terms, terminology, and techniques
- Identify and demonstrate the use of front wheel hubs
- Plan for minimal environmental impact
- Perform pre-departure checks
- Engage 4WD mode
Driving Techniques & Terrain Navigation
- Use appropriate range, gear, speed, driving, and braking techniques to navigate through a range of terrain types while maintaining control of the vehicle, on and off-road
Vehicle Recovery & Hazard Management
- Perform recovery of a 4WD vehicle
- Identify, address, and report potential hazards and risks
Vehicle Maintenance & Repairs
- Conduct inspection and perform maintenance and minor repairs
- Perform wheel change
B. Operate a light vehicle
Students will attain the practical application in how to operate a light vehicle and understanding of defensive driving techniques and will be able to:
Preparation & Safety
- Plan and prepare for vehicle operations
- Select and wear appropriate PPE
Defensive Driving & Hazard Management
- Understand defensive driving techniques
- Identify, address, and report potential hazards and risks
Vehicle Operation & Procedures
- Carry out pre-start, start-up, park-up, and shutdown procedures
- Operate the vehicle and associated equipment
Maintenance & Repairs
- Conduct inspection and perform maintenance
- Perform wheel change

Entry Requirements
- Students must hold a current NZ/AU Drivers Licence (Class C). Licences must be presented to the assessor prior to the commencement of the course. Please advise when booking if you hold an extraordinary licence as particular conditions may apply
- Must be 18 years old and above
- Present photo I.D. on arrival
- If you have any physical conditions that may affect your ability to complete a course, please visit a doctor and obtain a “Fit for Work” certificate, and send it to our bookings email.
- Please note, Saferight reserves the right to cancel your enrolment if this documentation is not provided and you are deemed unfit for training. Additionally, cancellation fees will apply if adequate notice is not given.
- Wear normal work clothing, enclosed footwear and remove all jewellery prior to commencement
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Saferight is dedicated to supporting all students, including those with Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) needs. If your LLN skills are assessed as needing improvement to meet the course requirements, we may recommend additional support or training to help you succeed. If you have any concerns about your LLN skills, we encourage you to contact us before enrolling.
- Individuals holding a student visa are not eligible to enrol in, participate in, or attend this course, whether face-to-face or online, as Saferight is not registered with CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students). Student visa holders are encouraged to seek training with a CRICOS-registered institution to meet their requirements.

Delivery Locations
Here’s detailed information for how and where the 4WD Course Perth WA is delivered:
- Morning Meet-Up: Please arrive and meet at 7:30 AM sharp at 17 Old Great Northern Highway, Midland WA 6056. You are also advised to park your vehicles at this location for the day.
- Practical Session: Following our meet-up, you will proceed to participate in the practical aspect of your 4×4 Training.
- Theory Session: Once the practical session concludes, we will return to 17 Old Great Northern Highway for you to complete the theory session of the course.
