4WD + Operate a Light Vehicle overview
A. Operate and maintain a 4WD vehicle
Students will attain the practical application and understanding required to operate and maintain a 4WD vehicle on and off road and will be able to:
4WD Fundamentals & Preparation
- Identify 4WD and defensive driving-specific terms, terminology, and techniques
- Identify and demonstrate the use of front wheel hubs
- Plan for minimal environmental impact
- Perform pre-departure checks
- Engage 4WD mode
Driving Techniques & Terrain Navigation
- Use appropriate range, gear, speed, driving, and braking techniques to navigate through a range of terrain types while maintaining control of the vehicle, on and off-road
Vehicle Recovery & Hazard Management
- Perform recovery of a 4WD vehicle
- Identify, address, and report potential hazards and risks
Vehicle Maintenance & Repairs
- Conduct inspection and perform maintenance and minor repairs
- Perform wheel change
B. Operate a light vehicle
Students will attain the practical application in how to operate a light vehicle and understanding of defensive driving techniques and will be able to:
Preparation & Safety
- Plan and prepare for vehicle operations
- Select and wear appropriate PPE
Defensive Driving & Hazard Management
- Understand defensive driving techniques
- Identify, address, and report potential hazards and risks
Vehicle Operation & Procedures
- Carry out pre-start, start-up, park-up, and shutdown procedures
- Operate the vehicle and associated equipment
Maintenance & Repairs
- Conduct inspection and perform maintenance
- Perform wheel change
Accredited Units
You will be enrolled into the following unit of competency:
Entry Requirements
To take part in our 4WD +Light Vehicle combo training (RIIVEH305F, TLIC0023) + (RIIVEH201E) you’ll need to:

Hold a current Australian driver’s licence (C Class or higher) – either provisional (P) or full.

Make sure your licence is valid for the state or territory where the course is delivered.

Bring your licence with you on the first day of training.
Please note:

International or overseas licences are not accepted.

A learner’s permit isn’t enough – you must already have your P-plates or a full licence.
This is to make sure you’re legally allowed to drive during training, and to keep everyone safe on and off the road.
- Must be 18 years old and above
- If you have any physical conditions that may affect your ability to complete a course, please visit a doctor and obtain a “Fit for Work” certificate, and send it to our bookings email.
- Please note, Saferight reserves the right to cancel your enrolment if this documentation is not provided and you are deemed unfit for training. Additionally, cancellation fees will apply if adequate notice is not given.
- Wear normal work clothing, enclosed footwear and remove all jewellery prior to commencement
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Saferight is dedicated to supporting all students, including those with Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) needs. If your LLN skills are assessed as needing improvement to meet the course requirements, we may recommend additional support or training to help you succeed. If you have any concerns about your LLN skills, we encourage you to contact us before enrolling.
- Individuals holding a student visa are not eligible to enrol in, participate in, or attend this course, whether face-to-face or online, as Saferight is not registered with CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students). Student visa holders are encouraged to seek training with a CRICOS-registered institution to meet their requirements. For more information please click here.

On successful completion of this course, students will receive a Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for the units below and a wallet sized card:
- RIIVEH305F – Operate and Maintain a Four Wheel Drive Vehicle
- TLIC0023 – Operate Four Wheel Drive Vehicle
- RIIVEH201E – Operate a Light Vehicle
The Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be supplied and verified prior to issuance.

- Ritz Caffe is less than 1 minute up the road from our premise which provides all food services. Open from 7am till 3pm.
- Sit down luncheon at Council Club Hotel directly opposite our facility.
- Saferight has kitchen facilities for tea and coffee and fridges and microwaves for people who wish to bring their own lunch

Delivery Locations
Here’s detailed information for how and where the 4WD Course Perth WA is delivered:
- Morning Meet-Up: Please arrive and meet at 7:30 AM sharp at your selected training location. You are also advised to park your vehicles at this location for the day.
- Practical Session: Following our meet-up, you will proceed to participate in the practical aspect of your 4×4 Training.
- Theory Session: Once the practical session concludes, we will return to your selected training location for you to complete the theory session of the course.
