Operate a Light Vehicle overview
The RII Light Vehicle – Operate a Light Vehicle course (RIIVEH201E) is aimed at those working in operational roles that are required to operate light vehicles.
It applies to individuals working in operational roles. They generally work under supervision to undertake a prescribed range of functions involving established routines and procedures and take responsibility for the quality of work outcomes.
Students will attain the practical application and understanding of defensive driving techniques and will be able to:
Prepare for Light Vehicle Operations:
- Conduct risk assessments
- Ensure equipment safety
Operate Light Vehicles:
- Follow manufacturer and workplace procedures
Conduct Routine Maintenance and Respond to Driving Emergencies:
- Perform routine maintenance
- Effectively respond to driving emergencies
Our Operate a Light Vehicle course (RIIVEH201E) offers hands-on training in real-world settings, WITHOUT the use of simulators.

You will be enrolled into the following unit of competency:
Entry Requirements
To enrol in our Light Vehicle course (RIIVEH201E) you’ll need to:

Hold a current Australian driver’s licence (C Class or higher) – provisional (P) or full licence.

Bring your licence with you on the first day of training.
Please note:

International licences are not accepted – you’ll need an Australian licence before starting.

A learner’s permit isn’t enough – you must already have your P-plates or a full licence.
- Must be 18 years old and above
- Present a valid photo I.D. on arrival
- Have a USI (Unique Student Identifier)
- Complete the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment. If you have any concerns about your LLN skills, we encourage you to contact us before enrolling.
- If you have any physical conditions that may affect your ability to complete a course, please visit a doctor and obtain a “Fit for Work” certificate, and send it to our bookings email.
- Individuals holding a student visa are not eligible to enrol in, participate in, or attend this course, whether face-to-face or online, as Saferight is not registered with CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students). Student visa holders are encouraged to seek training with a CRICOS-registered institution to meet their requirements. For more information please click here.

Students will be evaluated on their ability to perform light vehicle operations and maintain safety equipment effectively, essential for obtaining the RII Light Vehicle (RIIVEH201E) certification.
Certification
On successful completion of this RII Light Vehicle – Operate a Light Vehicle course (RIIVEH201E), students will receive:
- Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for RIIVEH201E – Operate a Light Vehicle
- Wallet sized card
The Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be supplied and verified prior to issuance.

Finished a Tele-Handler course here a few weeks ago, and after finishing a rigging course at one of the other major training companies in Perth I have to say Saferight is definitely the better of the two..

The 4WD course was very informative, particularly the practical aspect which developed fundamental skills for traversing rough terrain!
Very interesting course. Gives you confidence in learning to trust the vehicles and confidence in driving off-road - 4WD.
