Gas Test Atmospheres overview
The MSMWHS217 – Gas Test Atmospheres course is for those who are required to carry out gas testing of an atmosphere prior to entering a specific area or work-space to determine if it is safe.
Students will attain the theoretical knowledge and the practical application to perform Gas Test Atmospheres properly and will be able to:
- Prepare for Gas Testing: Determine gas type, select and calibrate equipment, establish testing regime, identify hazards, implement control measures and PPE use.
- Test Gas: Test gas, interpret/report readings, monitor continuously, take action on unacceptable readings, communicate actions to relevant personnel.
- Maintain Equipment: Clean, maintain, inspect equipment, return it to specified location, and record tests and results.

Entry Requirements
- Participants must be clean shaven in order to attend the course
- Ability to read, write and understand English
- Present photo I.D. on arrival
- Complete a ‘Fitness to Complete Training’ form upon arrival at the training facility. The student is required to declare any medical issue that may exclude them from full participation
- Wear normal work clothing, enclosed footwear and remove all jewellery prior to commencement

Certification
On successful completion of this course, students will receive a:
- Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for MSMWHS217 – Gas Test Atmospheres
- A wallet-sized card
Your Statement of Attainment does not have an expiry date, however, industry standards recommend retraining every two years.
The Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be supplied and verified prior to issuance.
