Chainsaw Operations Course overview

The Chainsaw Operations Course Perth provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely prepare, operate and maintain a hand-held chainsaw in a workplace environment according to AHCMOM213 Operate and Maintain Chainsaws unit.

Through a combination of theory and hands-on practical training, participants learn how to identify hazards, establish a safe work area, inspect and prepare a chainsaw, complete routine maintenance and apply safe cutting techniques when cross-cutting fallen timber.

The course covers chainsaw components, safety features, personal protective equipment, kickback and other reactive forces, compression and tension in timber, routine maintenance, fault reporting and post-operational cleaning and storage. Participants will learn about:

  • Worksite preparation and emergency arrangements
  • Chainsaw hazards, kickback and reactive forces
  • Workplace safety and environmental requirements
  • Chainsaw components and safety features
  • Required personal protective equipment
  • Pre-start inspections and operational checks

  2. Present a valid photo I.D. on arrival
  3. Have a USI (Unique Student Identifier)
  4. Complete the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment. If you have any concerns about your LLN skills, we encourage you to contact us before enrolling.
  5. If you have any physical conditions that may affect your ability to complete a course, please visit a doctor and obtain a “Fit for Work” certificate, and send it to our bookings email.
  6. Individuals holding a student visa are not eligible to enrol in, participate in, or attend this course, whether face-to-face or online, as Saferight is not registered with CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students). This Chainsaw course runs for 1 day (7:30 AM – 3:30 PM). With a maximum of six participants per course, each participant receives supervised practical training, sufficient chainsaw operating time and individual assessment.
