Confine Small Emergencies in a Facility overview
This PUAFER008 Confine Small Emergencies in a Facility course is aimed at those who are responsible for confining small workplace emergencies such as a small fire using a fire extinguisher or chemical spill using a small spill kit.
This unit of competency involves the skills and knowledge required to confine small emergencies in a facility and it applies to occupants who are required to have first attack firefighting skills. It includes preparing for emergency situations, identifying and assessing an emergency, safely confining emergencies, using initial response equipment and reporting on the facility’s emergency response.
Students will attain the practical application and understanding to identify, assess and safely confine workplace emergency situations following emergency response procedures:
- Prepare for Facility Emergency: Identify potential emergency situations, gather relevant information, determine emergency actions as per the facility emergency plan
- Pre-Emergency Planning: Attend emergency planning meetings, conduct regular exercises, maintain and update emergency response procedure, update emergency control organization details
- Action During Emergency: Identify/initiate emergency signals, operate emergency stations, assess the situation, initiate action plan, control area access, give directions, monitor evacuation, communicate with emergency service
- Conclude Emergency: Notify when safe to return, implement re-entry process, report system reinstatement, provide debriefing information, compile reports for committee and management, file documentation

Entry Requirements
- Must be 18 years old and above
- Present a valid photo I.D. on arrival
- Have a USI (Unique Student Identifier)
- Complete the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) Assessment. If you have any concerns about your LLN skills, we encourage you to contact us before enrolling.
- If you have any physical conditions that may affect your ability to complete a course, please visit a doctor and obtain a “Fit for Work” certificate, and send it to our bookings email.
- Individuals holding a student visa are not eligible to enrol in, participate in, or attend this course, whether face-to-face or online, as Saferight is not registered with CRICOS (Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students). Certification
On successful completion of this course, students will receive a:
- Nationally Recognised Statement of Attainment for PUAFER008 Confine Small Emergencies in a Facility
- A wallet size card
Your certificate does not have an expiry date, however, industry standards recommend retraining every two years.
The Unique Student Identifier (USI) must be supplied and verified prior to issuance.

To qualify for CTF grants, subsidies, and other benefits, individuals and companies must demonstrate primary and substantial hands-on involvement in WA construction industry projects, specifically in on-site construction, installation, and/or fabrication work.
This applies whether you’re self-employed or employed by a construction company, provided you’re directly engaged in the building and construction process. To confirm eligibility, we may request a recent, detailed work history and/or proof of employment.
CTF subsidies are granted to those who meet the eligibility criteria. More information can be found here.
